Idol Shocker

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Can you believe what happened last night on American Idol??? My jaw literally dropped when Ryan Seacrest announced the “other” David won!  It looked like Archuleta had the thing in the bag…but Cook turned it around, and by a HUGE margin, 56 percent of the 97 million votes.  I am so happy that Cook won…what with his brother battling cancer…he is a true pro..giving it his all when his loved one is possibly dying…and, himself a bartender just trying to catch a lucky break. Truly, Archuleta is talented…but Cook to me just oozes “star!”  I’m sure our Afternoon Goddess Stacie Bartro is happy today…she’s been rooting for him since day one. Now some are saying the show “picked” Cook from the very beginning. I dunno…what do you think??? Did the correct David win??? I’m just glad it’s over, so I can finally get some sleep : )  Idol returns in January…will you be watching?

Help a Sistah Out

So, I know it’s hard for most people to even afford to put gas in their cars these days. A friend of mine has even found a second job to help pay for groceries and gasoline. Times are hard. And, it’s putting the squeeze on all of us. I do try to accomplish several things in one place…to save on gas, etc…and eat tuna fish most everyday. I also almost exclusively shop at resale shops now…of course, you know me…I don’t mind!!! I love it! Just imagine though, you live away from your aging parents, and the services of Meals on Wheels came to an end for them because there were no more volunteers. So many of the MOW clients can take care of themselves at home, but it is difficult for them to drive or go grocery shopping. Volunteers keep MOW running, literally. Because of the sky-rocketing gas prices, MOW volunteers are few and far between now. They are in desperate need. Please consider delivering a route just once a month…we at Entercom serve MOW every week. So that means I, for instance, only deliver once every few months, because we have such a large company. Please talk to your family today, and your friends..and your employer about starting a route. When everyone helps out, it’s a piece of cake!

TGIF!!!!  TK and I are getting ready for a VERY busy weekend…and we want you to be a part of it! If you haven’t made dinner plans tonight, why not drop by Northgate Baptist Church around 5:30 for a spaghetti dinner…(and don’t worry if you are a vegetarian, they have no-meat sauce too) it’s on Summit Drive near downtown Greenville. Bring a lot of cash, because the 4th graders are serving dinner, and the tip money will be used for their field trip next year….after dinner, we will be hosting the Summit Drive Elementary School Idol Show!!

In the morning, join us for the 7th Annual Safe Harbor Run, to raise money to assist survivors of domestic violence. Get to Fluor Field early, because we’ll have Krispy Kreme Doughnuts…perfect way to start a run (who thought that up)…and Magic prizes as usual!! Go online www.rmssports.com for more details.

Tomorrow night…Larkin’s on the River, in downtown Greenville beside the Peace Center, will be transformed into a casino…it’s Vegas Night for the American Cancer Society’s Moonlight & Magnolias event..we are betting on a cure. Tickets are still available, and we would love to rub elbows with you!!!  Go online www.magic989online.com for all the scoop.

And finally, a quick reminder…tomorrow, Saturday the 10th, is the annual Stamp Out Hunger Drive through the U.S. Postal Service. Just place some non-perishable items by your mailbox early in the morning, and your mail carrier will pick them up. Donations will go to the needy clients of the Community Food Bank of the Piedmont. They are in desperate need of food…please go through the cabinets tonight and give generously.

If you have an event you would like us to publicize, please email me at  mwhitson at entercom.com

We love the Upstate, and want to be involved as much as possible!

Have a great weekend, whatever you do!!

OMG!!! I have curls….

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I did it! I got that perm I’ve been talking about. Boy, do I feel like a new woman : )  My hairdresser Leslie obviously knows what she’s doing, because it really looks natural. It’s been about 5 years since I’ve had a permanent…what I did was…I grew it out out really long and kept it trimmed…plus I always let it dry naturally. When it got to the point that I wanted to cut it again, I got the perm. So now, I have longer, curly tresses, just as I had envisioned. Sometimes, you just need a change or a little lift…and I feel perkier than ever. I promise to put up a picture in a few days…it’s in the awkward stage right now…can’t wash it for 48 hours…so hopefully by next week. Here’s to curls girls!!! And remember, if your best friend has naturally curly hair…you must get her permission first : )
